The Process

…is a kind of conversation. If you are ready for a custom instrument, you will already have a good idea of what you want. The early stages should be fairly one-sided: I listen to your basic specification, then start to ask questions, add ideas… In an ideal world, this would all be done face to face, but any medium is fine. Over the years, I have built many instruments to specifications arrived at by telephone conversations, letters, and, increasingly, email. I will give an approximate price range at an early stage, and a firm price when a full specification is reached, at which point a deposit is payable if the job is to proceed.
